I haven’t managed to get Ira’s Christmas tape to him yet, so I’m going to start the posting of these with his. Ira’s tape is a mostly instrumental journey through 21st century composition techniques. The music here ranges from traditional instrumentation and arrangements, to music created by computer generated algorithms, as well as some tracks where the music itself is made by the human voice. Enjoy

As the winter months approach I find myself wanting to listen to different types of music. Gone are the energetic fits of electric guitars, and in their place I often find myself awash in floating strings, and droning synths. To that effect, here’s my first wintery mixtape. Composed of music that mostly fits into that theme, with a few surprises. And one really rough demo of a classic. I find this is best suited for days where the weather report is mostly cloudy with a high of 65.

I really like this mix. I could see how it might be too lo-fi for some people at times (that Sea Otters track is an acquired taste) but for the most part it’s just good fun pop songs (and a dramatic interlude from the incredible Liz Harris), the perfect soundtrack for saying goodbye to the summer and welcoming the autumn with open, loving arms.

I decided that I want to try and maybe make my tumblr into a better blog than it’s been in the past. The first update is the addition of a Mixtapes sub page where you can find all of my past mixtapes (that have already been posted on here.) I also added a new, cleaner version of my logo I’ve been working on. I’ve got a couple more ideas in the works, so keep an eye out for them on the horizon.
So last week when I posted Fifty Cents for Your Soul, I could have posted this mix. I don’t know why, but I made two at the same time. I like ‘em both, but this one is less of a theme and more of just a bunch of good songs that I like a lot. Mostly upbeat, but there’s a couple of more downtempo tracks, I think it flows well. I hope you enjoy it.
